Many of us put our hands and fabric together for charitable causes. There are many worthy organizations that benefit from fund raising raffles or provide for the needy. I am proud to be a volunteer for the Quilts of Valor Foundation, whose goal is to provide a quilt for every wounded soldier and I am active in supporting Breast Cancer Awareness, Prevention and Support for those in the “fight”. I also try to make small quilts for infants in the pediatric intensive care unit at Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, CA as time allows. It is said that “Our Talents are our gift from God. What we do with the talent is our gift back to Him” Therefore I am happy to donate a certain amount of time to that service, however, I must continue to make an income to support my family. So these are the guide lines I use to give back to my community. I will gladly do charity work provided you are not in a rush. I need to have time to “work” your project into my schedule so as not to inconvenience paying customers – they are my first priority. I will give freely of my time if you want an all over pantograph or simple freehand design. If it requires custom work – charges will be agreed upon prior to accepting the quilt. It is helpful if you provide batting for the project. I will gladly use “pieced” batting and frequently have some on hand for you. If you require a “fresh” cut I will charge for the batting. My time and thread are my contribution to your cause. Of course there are always exceptions and special cases that will be addressed individually. Many churches have quilt ministries that provide small quilts to fire departments and police departments or children’s homes. It is usually an on going project and these can be worked in also. If you have charity projects – please contact me so we can see how best to complete your gifts of compassion and caring.
Thank you!
